He is a mutant and a Thalphon which one of my one alien races I am creating for the Champions RPG. I have thought about Thalphons being a race of reptilian alien. The problem is that I if I could do him right in Champions Online he would like all Thalphons have six eyes. He happens to be a gladiator. How can show in his history that he is a skilled gladiator? I am trying to figure out how he lost his left arm and had it replaced with a cybernetic arm that end in a sword blade instead of a hand. He has a super strength and a regenerative healing factor as two of his mutant powers. Would it be better if I had him get his regenerative healing factor from nanites? Below is a description of what I have so far on how he would look like if I could do him right in Champions Online.

Physical Description: Enter into view is extremely tall humanoid male that towers eight feet in height. Light reddish copper scales cover his powerful built and muscled body. Running down the center of his head down to the end of his neck are four rows of sharp, inch-long backward curving spikes. He has two eyes located where a human would have eyes. Above both of these eyes is another eye, and above these eyes is another eye. All of his eyes are molten red orbs. A silver earring is worn in both of his large point webbed ears. Both of his cheeks have five outward curving spikes. On his chin are five downward curving spikes. His left hand has three fingers and a thumb. His left arm is a cybernetic replacement with a sword blade in place of a hand. Extending from the end of his spine is a tapering tail that measures three feet in length.

Hey, Bounty! Since you're specifying that your character is a "gladiator," I'm guessing you mean he fights in the Malvan arena. If that's the case there are multiple routes to get everything you want. Potential gladiators from all over the galaxy make their way to Malva, or now its "branch" operation on Earth's Moon, for the rich rewards for successful fighters. OTOH the Malvans often kidnap unwilling sapients and animals they think will provide a good spectacle. They especially favor gladiators with super-powers for the more exciting entertainment they provide, but while the aliens who come to Malva may already have such powers, Malvan science is so incredibly advanced that it can induce almost any desired power in any alien. They often augment non-super fighters who have gained the favor of the audience. So if your character lost an arm either fighting in the arena or before arriving on Malva, it would be child's play for them to replace it with bionics, and even to have given him his healing factor or any other ability you want him to have.

The Malvans seem to prefer their gladiators participate willingly, but aren't above using coercion and force to hold a reluctant fighter. In extreme cases they're able to use "brainwashing" techniques far beyond any in the real world, to erase a person's memories and program them with an entirely different personality. (Malva and the Malvan gladiatorial games are described in great detail in Champions Beyond, a book for the pen-and-paper RPG that this MMO's setting is derived from, which details the space/alien/cosmic side of the Champions Universe.)

I hope that was helpful to you. If not you're welcome to detail your concerns or ask more questions about any of the above, and we can try again. πŸ˜‰

How would I show that he represents the Thalphon in the Lunar Games that Malvans have? How would being from a planet with two suns effect the way he looks and his abilities?

Just a guess but two suns? He might be adapted to higher gravity, or lower then earth has, he might see in different colour spectrums if the suns are not yellow stars - ultraviolet or infra red, and what those spectrums see and don't see respectively.

He might be adapted to survive in a higher radiation enviroment, especially if his world is closer to one of the twin suns. or if its further out in his solar system, he might be more cold adapted as the distance increases the solar heat would fade as well. [Pluto gets something like one lightbulbs worth of solar heat at it's distance. don't quote me on that.] A cold-adapted reptilian would be an unusual combination.

But it's your character and alien species- how you represent them is entirely up to you. :)

Well, if the Thalphon home planet orbits one star in a binary system, periods of darkness are probably going to be rare. The Thalphon could be adapted to very bright light, and their eyes protected from being blinded by light-based attacks. They might have a greatly diminished need for sleep, if they sleep at all. As Deathless Lord points out, if they're proximate to one or both stars during part of their planet's orbit, they may be exposed to extreme radiation and/or heat and have evolved to resist them. There's an official Champions Universe alien race, the Perseids (Ironclad's people) who have developed exceptional radiation resistance due to solar exposure. Their skins are naturally black (not "black" as in Earth humans, but genuine black) so you might consider that for your Thalphon. The flip side of that coin may be that they have difficulty seeing in low light, and may be more sensitive to cold (which makes sense for reptiles), weaknesses a knowledgeable opponent could exploit.

With two suns the Thalphon home world could experience extreme high tides. In that case, as their ancestors evolved to walk on land they probably retained amphibious characteristics to cope with sudden floods. You might consider lengthening your character's tail to make it more useful for underwater propulsion. That would also explain his extra eyes, enabling him to see above the surface of the water without exposing his head -- useful for hunting.

Speaking of hunting, the Thalphon have pretty spikey faces. πŸ˜‹ Carrying that motif forward, as an alternative to the blade hand on his artificial arm, you might consider adding large natural spikes on his fleshy arm which Thalphon use for fighting and killing prey; which are duplicated in metal on his bionic replacement.

I'm afraid I'm not clear what you're asking for with, "How would I show that he represents the Thalphon in the Lunar Games that Malvans have?" Could you elaborate what you mean?

I hope this helps you out. The Thalphon government held a contest pick the best gladiator to represent Thalphon in the Lunar games. He won the contest and now represents the Thalphon in the Lunar Games.

What 6th edition Champions books has info on the Perseids?

For Sixth Edition, the most information on the Perseids is in the above-mentioned Champions Beyond. The Perseid data is in fair detail, but there's substantially more in Terran Empire and Worlds Of Empire. However, both of those books are for Fifth Edition, and are set six centuries in the future, so some of what they describe differs from present-day conditions as described in CB.

All right, that raises the question: What was the reason the Thalphon government picked a champion? The Malvan games aren't the Olympics. They're a blood sport staged for the entertainment of the jaded Malvan crowds, who don't care where a competitor comes from as long as they provide excitement. The gladiators who aren't coerced into fighting do it for their personal reward. What did the Thalphon leaders hope to gain?

I thought that he has been sent to study the Lunar Games as one way for the Thalphon to study the Malvan.

Okay, that sounds reasonable. He certainly wouldn't be the first alien to try to infiltrate the Malvans that way. 😏

Would you like assistance with anything else?

Do you think he would be one of the top gladiator in the Lunar Games despite losing at least one fight? The fight he lost cost him his arm which was chopped off by a sword use by his opponent. How would he go about spying on the Lunar Games without being caught so far? I know that he sends monthly reports back to the Thalphon on what is going on with the Malvans when it comes to the Lunar Games and any other info he can find on the Malvan. Is there any info on aliens trying to infiltrate the Malvans through the Lunar Games?

It's certainly possible. The fights don't always end in death, particularly if all combatants involved put on a good show. When Ironclad, Firewing, and Herculan were the dominant gladiators on Malva they regularly exchanged wins and losses. (This was before Firewing got a massive power boost.) Mind you, in more recent years the Phazor of Malva has come to prefer that the games be more bloody, and taken steps to encourage that. At least one gladiator described in the books is permanently disfigured from a past combat, even though Malvan medicine could have easily healed him if they wanted to.

Your character could have received his bionic arm precisely because the Malvans wanted to "upgrade" him to be more powerful, and distinctive. It's also not unheard of for a gladiator whose reputation on Malva was in decline to relocate to the "branch" arena on Luna to raise their profile again. The Forum Malvanum has become very popular with spectators on Malva due to the Earth superhumans who are recruited, or press-ganged, into fighting.

Here are my last questions. Would I better off making them have a reptilian head instead of having them have a humanoid head? If keep their head looking humanoid then how would I explain that their head is not reptiles in appearance. I could give them a reptilian head with three eyes are in the shape of an upside-down triangle on both sides of their head. Could you see them being warm-blooded reptilian creatures like dinosaurs?

Whatever appearance would be "better" depends entirely on what you would like for your character. You're the one who has to play it, after all. 😎 There's no need to explain why your character's head doesn't look like a reptile. Do our heads look like those of the quadrupedal mammals we evolved from?

The Champions Universe already has species of reptilian-appearing sapients who are warm-blooded like dinosaurs, including the Mon'dabi in our own Milky Way galaxy.

If I remember correctly, on the male humanoid head there is a scaled option under "noseless", you might want to try that? :)

Bounty, I just noticed I never responded to this question of yours. I apologize. πŸ˜ͺ

There are two beings involved in the Lunar Games covertly spying on the Malvans right now. One is a robot created by Mechanon, who detected the arena and dispatched this unit with the outer appearance of an "alien" of unknown species, to join the games as a gladiator. The other is a shape-shifting Roin'esh, wearing a Malvan form and working as an assistant to Tateklys (who doesn't yet know his real identity). There's also another Roin'esh posing as a humanoid gladiator of indeterminate race in the games on Malva itself.

The Roin'esh are trying to learn anything that will help free their race from servitude to the Malvans. They've also identified Earth and its superhumans as a potential threat to their long-term ambitions. Mechanon is trying to determine the capabilities and weaknesses of the aliens on the Moon (and was incensed to discover the galaxy contains so many more sapient organics).
